It Happened One Summer - Tessa Bailey

Genre : Romance

Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overview :

  • Dual pov

  • Enemies to lovers

  • Small town romance

Plot :

This story is about a woman called Piper Bellinger, she is used to having all of the attention on her, whether that's the paparazzi, social media or men. Her stepfather decides that enough is enough and sends her and her sister to a small town called Westport to run their late fathers bar.

She then meets Brendan, he is the complete opposite of Piper. But for some reason they can't keep away from each other. She didn't want any distractions - especially men. But is Piper starting to fall in love with the small town of Westport, or even Brendan?

My review (spoilers) :

I absolutely loved this book!!! I read this book quite a while ago now but it was the perfect summer read. It's such a feel good book, I love small town romance stories and this was one of the best ones I have read.

I loved Pipers character. She discovers who she truly is throughout this book, I liked how it wasn't all about the romance side. It was also about her past, revealing the truths about her late fathers life and the relationship she has with her sister and other family members. I think at first you think that Piper only thinks about herself and her image, but you get to realise her true self by the end of the book and see that this was probably the best decision that she (or her step father) made.

Brendan on the other hand, he's a grump. He likes his routines and when Pipers arrives it all goes out the window and he didn't like that. He's had a tough past, so I think anybody in his situation would be cautious of Piper but I think she proves herself to him in the story and that is why they have this indescribable connection that progresses more and more within their story.

Overall I think this is the perfect feel good book! It really gives summer vibes and made me feel warm and happy while I was reading it. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a easy read, and also someone who likes a little bit of spice! I also loved the second book of this collection, Hook, Line and Sinker, that review will be up soon...

"They'd been kind to Piper this afternoon, but more important, she was learning to be kind to herself. Learning to love herself, just as she was."

Thanks for reading,

Phoebe
